The Story So Far

Here's a quick summary of where we came from as coffee roasters.  Home roasting coffee isn't a super common hobby, but for those who find themselves in it, I think our story is pretty typical.  Maybe a little extra obsessive.

In November of 2012, we bought a Whirley Pop popcorn popper and six pounds of green coffee, and we became home roasters. Soon after, we poked a hole in the lid, shoved a probe thermometer into it, and started to log and profile our roasts.

In 2013, we bought a Quest M3 mini drum roaster and modified it with additional thermometer probes and a computer interface. Now we had the ability to really monitor and control things.

In 2015, we entered our first home roasting competition (yes, these exist). We did... okay.

In 2016, we were finalists in Mill City Roasters "Focus on the Roast" competition, ending up in 5th place overall.

Sidebar: I'm not sure about using competition as milestones, because there's really nothing competitive about roasting coffee. However, it is a great way to get impartial feedback on your coffee and test your skills.

Now, in 2017, we think it would be fun to start testing the waters as a micro commercial roastery. We're starting as small and low key as it gets, and we'll see where it goes...
